Russia's New EP2DM Electric Train Debuts on St. Petersburg Route
A new electric train, the EP2DM, has begun operating on the St. Petersburg - Sestroretsk route. Assembled entirely from Russian parts, the train is a result of a project led by Russian Railways (RZD) and offers a high level of comfort for passengers.
The EP2DM can accommodate around 600 passengers and reaches a top speed of 120 km/h, although it operates at up to 80 km/h on urban sections. Passengers have praised the train's comfort, which includes spacious aisles, handrails in vestibules, and convenient bike storage areas. The train features new ergonomic seats, liquid crystal information displays, and device chargers. It also boasts automatic steps for low-platform boarding and a barrier-free environment, ensuring accessibility for all passengers.
The train operates on a timed schedule, providing reliable and efficient transportation between St. Petersburg and Sestroretsk. There is currently one EP2DM train running on the resort line, with plans to expand the fleet based on positive feedback from passengers.
