Safaricom Warns of Rising Cyber Threats, Hosts Enterprise Security Event
Safaricom PLC, Kenya's leading telecommunications company, has sounded the alarm on the rising tide of cyber threats targeting local businesses. The warning comes as the Communications Authority of Kenya reports a significant increase in cyberattacks and threats in the recent quarter. Safaricom, committed to bolstering enterprise resilience, hosted a cybersecurity breakfast session for senior IT and security executives.
The event, organized by Safaricom Business, focused on strengthening enterprise resilience against the growing cyber threats. Nicholas Mulila, Safaricom's Chief Corporate Security Officer, highlighted the surge in ransomware, phishing, and insider attacks targeting Kenyan enterprises. Frankline Okata, Acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer, emphasized the central role of security in business continuity and reputation.
Participants gained valuable insights into Safaricom's Managed Security Operations Centre (MSOC) and witnessed live threat simulations and demonstrations. These showcased MSOC's real-time threat detection and response capabilities. The session also provided a sneak peek into Safaricom's roadmap of upcoming services designed to enhance enterprise resilience.
The Safaricom Cybersecurity Summit 2025, scheduled for October 16 in Nairobi, is expected to attract over 450 industry leaders. Representatives from Safaricom, Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, and local Kenyan tech firms will be in attendance.
