Samsung Electronics commences initial rooftop solar installation at its factory in Bac Ninh
In a notable development for both Vietnam and the global push towards sustainable development, Samsung Electronics Vietnam has launched a rooftop solar power project at its factory in Bac Ninh, in partnership with CME Solar. The project, with a capacity of 2.38 MWp, is expected to generate approximately 2.59 million kWh of clean electricity annually.
The solar installation, inaugurated in August 2025, comes three months after the groundbreaking ceremony and is a significant milestone in Samsung Vietnam's sustainability strategy. It demonstrates the company's leadership in renewable energy, making Samsung the largest foreign direct investor in Vietnam to adopt such a project.
CME Solar, a leading player in clean energy solutions, managed the entire process of the project, from design and legal compliance to construction and ongoing operations. The AI-powered 24/7 monitoring system ensures system efficiency and fault detection, contributing to the project's success.
The SEV factory in Bac Ninh has become a model of ideal collaboration between two leading enterprises in technology and clean energy. The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 2,460 metric tons per year, supporting both Samsung's Net Zero ambition and Vietnam’s national net-zero emissions target by 2050.
Chung Dieu Tuan, CEO of CME Solar, emphasised the shared commitment between SEV and CME Solar to sustainability, innovation, and responsible action. Kim Iee Soo, general director of SEV, reiterated this sentiment, stating that the project reflects Samsung's strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility in Vietnam.
Samsung Electronics Vietnam, which has been operating successfully in Vietnam for 15 years, has set goals to foster a prosperous economy, fulfil the aspirations of the Vietnamese populace, and cultivate a deep and enduring appreciation for the Samsung brand within the region. The rooftop solar power project aligns with these goals by contributing directly to Vietnam’s clean energy goals and Samsung’s broader sustainable development objectives.
The project also marks the beginning of Samsung Vietnam's decarbonisation journey and is a significant step towards the Vietnamese government's net-zero roadmap. Samsung Electronics Vietnam is expanding its procurement of renewable energy, indicating a commitment to a greener future for the country.
Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, visited Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen Co., Ltd. on June 8, underscoring the importance of such initiatives for Vietnam's sustainable development. The rooftop solar power project at the SEV factory in Bac Ninh is a testament to Samsung's commitment to Vietnam and its role in promoting clean energy and sustainable development in the region.
