Scandinavian Astor Group Acquires Latvia's Single Bullet Manufacturer
In a significant move for Latvia's defence sector, the local ammunition manufacturer, Ammunity, has been acquired by the Scandinavian Astor Group, a Swedish defence industry conglomerate.
Ammunity, previously known as Latvia's only military ammunition manufacturer, recently underwent a name change, signalling a new era for the company. The acquisition marks a strategic investment aimed at expanding Ammunity's market reach, increasing production capabilities, and integrating Ammunity's technologies into a broader portfolio to serve NATO and other allied forces.
The partnership between Ammunity and SAG will enable Ammunity to expand production rapidly, with a focus on innovation and strengthening Latvia's role in the European defence industry. Scandinavian Astor Group, consisting of several companies including Oscilion, Marstrom Composite, JPC Composite, and others, brings substantial resources and expertise to the table.
Defence Minister Andris Sprūds considers the investment in Ammunity as proof of the industry's competitiveness and potential. He stated, "This acquisition underscores the attractiveness of Latvia's defence sector and its potential for growth. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Ammunity team."
Ammunity's product range includes 32 different items, including combat and training cartridges. The company supplies ammunition to the National Armed Forces (NBS) and exports its products to several European Union countries and the United States.
The transaction between Ammunity and SAG will be completed upon obtaining all necessary permits and approvals from the competent authorities. Until now, Ammunity was owned by Viktors Juris Ozols (51%), Juris Užulis (30%), and Dāvis Vilis Ozols (19%).
The Latvian Ministry of Defence provided support to Ammunity in attracting investors. This strategic move is expected to strengthen Latvia's ability to ensure the availability of high-quality ammunition for both national and allied needs.
Looking forward, Ammunity plans to develop new products and continue its mission of providing top-tier ammunition solutions to its customers.
