"Similar to Buddhism": Elon Musk labels Dogecoin's utility-focused agency as a lifestyle choice
Hangin' with Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge)
Elon Musk, the whiz kid spearheading the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), just dropped a bombshell: the Doge is his new way of life, just like Buddhism.
Yup, you read that right.
In a recent press conference at none other than the White House, Musk shared his thoughts on the Doge's future should he step back from the department. Musk believes the organization will continue to thrive post-him, describing it as "a way of life, like Buddhism."
So why all the fuss about Buddhism? Well, just as Buddha's presence isn't needed to keep the teachings of Buddhism alive, Musk argues that the Doge could carry on without him.
Underneath the White House dome, Musk shared details about the future of Doge as a potential extension beyond the end of President Donald Trump's term. "I think so," he said to reporters about a possible extension. "It depends on the president."
Musk stepping away from Doge for more Tesla time
Founded in 2025 by President Trump, the Doge was planned to wrap up its operations on July 4, 2026. However, Musk hints that the Doge could outlast its expiration date.
Last week, Musk announced his plans to step down from the Doge in May to dedicate more time to Tesla. With Tesla's latest Q1 results leaving investors disappointed, Musk's extra focus on the automaker might prove a much-needed boost.
During the Q1 results, Tesla recorded revenue of $19.34 billion (€17.06 billion), missing projections by nearly 9%. Analysts had predicted a revenue figure of $21.43 billion (€18.9 billion). Investors also received $0.12 (€0.11) per share, far below analyst estimates of $0.33 (€0.29).
Adding to the stress, Tesla's Q1 deliveries fell short of analyst expectations, with the company facing protests over Musk's right-wing politics and mass layoffs at the Doge.
Sadly, the protests didn't end there. Some Tesla vehicles, particularly the Cybertrucks, and auto dealerships became targets for vandalism.
With Tesla plunging in the market, it's clear that Musk's attention may be needed now more than ever. Judging from Musk's recent comments, it seems he's already thinking about taking a breather from the Doge in favor of the automaker.
But what about the Doge? Can the department continue without Musk leading the charge? It's looking like it's a way of life, and maybe it will outlast us all.
