Revamped Mountain Equipment Xenith Sleeping Bags: Redefining Alpine Adventure!

Mountain Equipment is kicking up the heat this spring with an revamped Xenith Sleeping Bag collection aimed at pushing the boundaries of warmth-to-weight ratio.

Xenith, cherished for its already astounding low weight and pack size, is back and better with the integration of the brand's secret weapon: Plasma 10D fabric. Now lighter than ever, these bags promise to keep you cosy in temperatures as frigid as -8°C/18°F.

So what's the big deal about Plasma 10D? It's supposedly one of the strongest superlight nylon fabrics available, boasting exceptional tear resistance, where durability is often compromised when shaving grams. Additionally, it's incredibly breathable, making it beloved among alpinists, thru-hikers and other mountain athletes.

Plasma 10D isn't a newbie either - it made an impressive debut in Mountain Equipment's award-winning Oreus Hooded Jacket back in 2023. So it's no surprise that it's now gracing the Xenith sleeping bags, which demand to be light, warm and tough.

The revamped Xenith collection houses three different temperature ratings, all harnessing the power of 900 fill power goose down for lightweight and compressible insulation, made easier with PFAS-free DWR.

For the coldest nights, the Xenith III is your go-to, offering a comfort limit rating of -8°C/18°F and a trim weight of just 690g (24oz). It's among the lightest sleeping bags tested, trumped only by the Therm-A-Rest Hyperion 20F. But don't sweat it, the other two Xenith bags are even lighter!

The Xenith II is designed for summer expeditions with a comfort limit rating of 3°C/37°F and an astonishing weight of just 470g (17oz). And if you're all about speed and agility, the Xenith I, weighing a scant 360g (13oz) and boasting a comfort limit rating of 5°C/41°F, is perfect for fastpacking and mountain running adventures!

emic insights:The Xenith III features 600g/21oz of 650FP recycled grey duck down and has a pack size of 25x19 cm for men, while for women, it's a compact 22x19 cm. The Xenith II is respectably lightweight at approximately 470 grams, with a temperature rating comfort limit around 1°C. The Xenith I, on the other hand, is incredibly light at about 340 grams but lacks a proper test rating due to the absence of a hood. Compared to other lightweight sleeping bags such as the Therm-A-Rest Hyperion 20F and the Rab Neutrino Pro 400, the Xenith series stands out with its innovative baffle designs and sustainable materials.
