Smartwatches withdrawn due to overheating, causing hand injuries through fire

The Altafit af28 smartwatch, a device marketed for its ability to measure blood pressure and offer features like sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and various sports modes, has been recalled due to a risk of serious burn injuries and fire hazards caused by its wireless charging pad.

The recall, which affects about 2,900 units sold by Home Shopping Network (HSN) between March and May 2025, was triggered following reports of fires and burn injuries linked to the charging pad overheating.

The smartwatches, available in gold and silver tones with a 1.68-inch color touchscreen, came with two bands (bejeweled and mesh) and included a wireless charging pad and cable. Watches impacted by the recall have the marking "ALTAFIT FCC ID 2BHG8-AF28" on the back.

Consumers are advised to stop using the smartwatch and the charging pad immediately. Deale International LLC, the manufacturer, is handling the recall. Buyers can contact Deale International toll-free at 877-880-6137 (Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET), email [email protected], or visit the official recall page on thedeale.com for instructions on obtaining a refund or replacement.

The recall does not apply to the Altafit AF25 model currently sold by HSN, which has no reported issues. Consumers are asked to cut the unplugged charging pad's power cable and email a photo of the charging pad with the cut cable to [email protected] after receiving instructions for a free replacement.

The Altafit af28 was sold on HSN.com as a smartwatch that resembles jewelry and offers the latest smartwatch features. It was marketed as a versatile device suitable for evening wear, not too sporty. The smartwatch can receive phone calls, texts, and app notifications.

The smartwatches were imported into the U.S. by Deale International LLC, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and were manufactured in China. The original price of the smartwatches was $100, but they were marked down to $50 during the sales period.

This recall serves as a reminder to always prioritise safety, especially when it comes to electronic devices. For those who owned the Altafit af28 before the recall, it's curious to know about their experiences with the device. We hope for the best for all affected consumers and encourage everyone to stay vigilant when purchasing electronic products.
