Social Media App TikTok Introduces Marketing Tools for Song Composers to Boost Exposure
In a bold move to further cement its position in the music industry, TikTok has launched a suite of new features aimed at giving songwriters and publishers a permanent home and credit for their work on the platform.
The 'New' tag highlights fresh releases, and the "Add to Music App" integration lets fans save discoveries directly to their streaming playlists. This integration is just one of the many new features designed to deepen fan discovery, sharing, and retention of songwriter content, and to enrich music marketing narratives by highlighting the creators behind hits.
Songwriters and publishers interested in early access to TikTok's new features can sign up via TikTok's regional waitlists for the US, EU, and beyond. Major publishers Warner Chappell, Kobalt, Reservoir, and Sentric serve as initial partners in TikTok's new features for composers.
The new features are endorsed by high-profile songwriters and publishers, including Lauren Christy, Toby Gad, Justin Tranter, Warner Chappell, Kobalt, Reservoir, and Sentric. The Songwriter Account label is available for eligible composers to apply for, signaling their authorship to fans and industry professionals.
Composers apply for the TikTok Songwriter Account label and Music Tab by joining a beta program that is currently invitation-based and limited to select songwriters and publishing partners. Interested songwriters must fill out a waitlist form to be considered for access to the Songwriter Account label, which identifies them as songwriters on their profiles, and the Songwriter Music Tab, which showcases songs they have written or co-written.
Once approved, composers receive a Songwriter Account label on their profile, providing official recognition and visibility. Their Songwriter Music Tab aggregates their credited compositions, helping fans and collaborators discover their works in one place.
As the beta scales, more composers will claim their labels and content hubs, broadening the platform's music ecosystem. High-profile composers such as Lauren Christy, Toby Gad, and Justin Tranter have already claimed their Songwriter badges and Music Tabs on TikTok.
Brands and music marketers can leverage the new songwriter features by weaving composer narratives into campaigns and collaborating with composers for co-branded audio content. The new features are part of a global rollout of TikTok for Artists, a comprehensive platform designed to support artists at every stage of their careers.
The new features are informed by a comprehensive survey of 871 songwriters and 18 in-depth interviews, and complemented by MIDiA data showing TikTok's central role in music careers. MIDiA Research underscored TikTok's central role in composers' social media strategies, revealing that the majority of full-time songwriters already rely on the platform to build their brands.
The dedicated Music Tab on each composer's profile showcases their written and co-written tracks, including audio snippets, user-generated videos, and contextual content. These new features aim to usher in a new era of credit, discovery, and community for composers on the platform.
