Solar Energy Sector Needs 4.8 TW Boost by 2025 to Meet Climate Goals
The solar energy sector is set to expand significantly by 2025, with an additional 4.8 terawatts of capacity required to meet climate change goals. This is according to a recent forecast by REC, which also highlights the potential of floating solar installations and new high-efficiency modules. REC's study, the first of its kind on a global scale, calculates the impacts of the COP21 Paris Agreement on solar industry capacities. It reveals that more solar capacity than currently projected is needed to meet the agreement's targets by 2025, underscoring the crucial role of solar energy in achieving climate change goals. At the upcoming Intersolar Europe, REC will showcase innovative solutions to help meet this increased demand. One such innovation is 'floating' solar installations, which allow for the multiple use of standing inland waters. REC will demonstrate the potential of this technology at the event. The company will also launch new 'TwinPeak' solar modules at Intersolar Europe. These include a 72-cell variant with up to 340 watts of power output, representing a significant step forward in solar module efficiency. REC's study and innovations highlight the need for increased investment and innovation in the solar energy sector to meet climate change goals. The company's floating solar installations and high-efficiency modules offer promising solutions for expanding solar capacity, particularly in areas where land is scarce or expensive.
