Space-bound IoT Connectivity: SEALSQ and WISeSat Team Up for Unyielding, Real-time Data Communication via Advanced Post-Quantum Security Measures from Orbit

In a groundbreaking development, WiseKey International Holding Ltd's subsidiary, SEALSQ Corp, has taken a significant step forward in the realm of Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity. On June 23, 2025, the WiseSat 3 satellite was successfully launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 Transporter-14 mission from California.

The WiseSat 3 satellite, part of the WiseSat constellation, is equipped with post-quantum secure chips, marking a significant leap towards providing global, ultra-secure, real-time IoT connectivity. This satellite features advanced post-quantum cryptography, a critical component in ensuring the security of data transmitted from IoT devices.

The launch of WiseSat 3 serves as a proof of concept for autonomous, decentralized satellite-to-IoT device transactions, laying the foundation for a new Satellite-as-a-Service (SataaS) model. This innovation could revolutionise the IoT industry, making secure, space-based connectivity accessible and affordable for businesses of all sizes.

The WiseSAT platform, developed by WiseKey, offers an end-to-end solution that includes satellite platforms, launches, integration, ground station services, and a robust security architecture. This comprehensive offering is designed to cater to various industries, including agriculture, automotive, healthcare, critical infrastructure, and more.

In agriculture, the technology enables precision through secure IoT sensors for tracking soil health, weather conditions, and livestock movements. In the automotive industry, it offers encrypted vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications, fleet management security, and authenticated transactions for electric vehicle charging networks. In healthcare, it facilitates remote telemedicine and emergency response, securing the transmission of medical IoT data. In critical infrastructure, it protects power grids, water systems, and transportation networks from cyber threats.

The WiseSAT platform's end-to-end, device-to-cloud security suite represents a unique vertical solution offered exclusively by WiseKey. The platform incorporates advanced security by design, featuring VaultIC 4XX secure elements that are FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL 5+ certified. These elements enable sensor authentication and data encryption within a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)-based security framework.

The integration of blockchain and Web 3.0 technologies further extends the use cases of this satellite infrastructure. WiseKey provides comprehensive Certificate Lifecycle Management services (INeS) for device onboarding, commissioning, and lifecycle management. The platform also supports SEALCOIN token exchanges and Hedera’s decentralized ledger technology, reinforcing its position as a global leader in IoT security and space technology innovation.

Future plans include expanding launch operations through partnerships with companies like PLD Space (Spain) and SkyRoot Aerospace (India) to broaden global launch capabilities and resilience. These collaborations aim to strengthen the WiseSat network, with additional launches scheduled for October and December 2025.

With the successful launch of WiseSat 3, WiseKey and SEALSQ Corp have taken a significant step towards democratising access to advanced space technology for businesses, regardless of ecosystem size. This development marks a major milestone in the journey towards secure, real-time, and affordable IoT connectivity from space.

Science and technology are likely to intertwine further with the integration of advanced post-quantum cryptography on WiseSat 3, a crucial component in ensuring the security of data transmitted from IoT devices in space-and-astronomy. This breakthrough in cybersecurity could revolutionize the industry by making secure, space-based connections more accessible and affordable.
