Spicing Up the Silicon Valley Giant's India Triumph

Woohoo! Delhi's Tech Scene: Apple's iPhone shipments in India lit up the first quarter of 2025 with a whopping 28% surge when compared to the previous year. This vibrant info sprang out of a report by CyberMedia Research (CMR).

The iPhone 16 series dominated the market, with an impressive 54% share, and the iPhone 15 series followed suit, snagging a cool 36% share. Unveiling the Q1 2025 stats, CMR's report pointed out that Apple iPads also experienced an 18% growth compared to the same period last year.

What's cookin' for the entire 2025? Reports have a sneaky suspicion that iPhones will command a chunky 11% share of the Indian smartphone market. Meanwhile, iPads are predicted to clock in a healthy 33%. As Apple invests heavily in local production, an exciting dance seems to be unfolding on the India stage.

Fast Forward to 2025: Apple has been burning up the tracks in India, posting impressive double-digit YoY growth. The iPhone 16 series, especially the wallet-friendly iPhone 16e, has been a major driving force. According to CMR's Prabhu Ram, "With nearly three million units shipped in Q1 2025 alone, Apple smashed its Q1 performance records in the Indian market."

India's star is rising in the iPhone production universe. As supply chain adjustments pick up pace, the country is poised to become a significant iPhone production hub. Ram anticipates that Apple will be able to sustain this momentum, with maneuvers like expanding local manufacturing, boosting retail footprint, and tapping into India's skilled workforce to support key initiatives such as retail, AI, and machine learning.

Word on the street is that Apple might be turning the entire assembly of iPhones destined for the US over to India by the end of 2026. If that happens, it would be a massive move in Apple's global manufacturing strategy, as they continue to diversify their reliance on China.

Foxconn, one of Apple's major contractors, is already revving up production in India. Foxconn's Bengaluru plant, slated for operation this month, could crank out up to 20 million iPhones at full capacity. In the past year alone, iPhone assembly worth a substantial $22 billion was performed in India, with Foxconn contributing nearly half of Apple's exports from the region.
