TECNO hints at a new Phantom Ultimate G Fold, a tri-fold device, in a teaser, just before Samsung's Unpacked event.
TECNO is set to revolutionise the smartphone market with its upcoming release, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold. This tri-fold phone promises to be a game-changer, boasting an ultra-slim thickness when fully opened and a compact form when folded.
The Phantom Ultimate G Fold features a dual-hinge design, allowing it to be unfolded and laid flat. When folded, it measures approximately 11.49 mm in thickness, a figure comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (though exact folded thickness may vary). However, where it truly shines is when unfolded, where it boasts an ultra-slim thickness of just 3.49 mm. This makes it notably thinner than the typical folded thickness of other dual-fold phones like the Honor Magic V5 and Samsung Z Fold 6.
TECNO's design team has achieved this impressive slimness through the use of advanced materials and the tri-fold design. The phone's inner displays fold inward twice to shield the screens when not in use, providing an extra layer of protection against scratches and impacts.
TECNO is also promoting the Phantom Ultimate G Fold's "smooth, multi-angle hovering" capabilities for hands-free use. Leaked images have given a potential look at the device, although their authenticity is yet to be confirmed.
The Phantom Ultimate G Fold is also set to feature a horizontal triple camera array on the back, a notable departure from TECNO's 2024 concept which showcased a vertical triple camera array. TECNO originally unveiled a tri-fold concept called the Phantom Ultimate 2 in 2024, but it seems that the design has evolved significantly since then.
TECNO plans to fully unveil the Phantom Ultimate G Fold concept in mid-July. Until then, the exact folded and unfolded measurements of the device remain a mystery. However, it's clear that TECNO is positioning the Phantom Ultimate G Fold as the world's thinnest tri-fold phone in its unfolded state.
