In a significant move towards its decentralization strategy, MIX, Italy's leading internet network interconnection platform, has announced the expansion of its services in Bologna. The new point of presence (PoP), named MIX Bologna, is located within BOIX, the datacenter of Lepida, the ICT services hub of the Emilia Romagna region.

Alessandro Talotta, Executive President and Chairman of MIX, made the announcement, marking the second MIX PoP outside Lombardy, following the one activated in Palermo in 2017. The "Keep local traffic local" motto, a long-standing initiative of MIX and member operators, finds further concretization with the activation of MIX Bologna.

The new PoP is designed to expand local interconnection infrastructure and attract internet operators. All operators connected to MIX Bologna can perform direct peering with over 350 networks on the public LAN of MIX, ensuring optimal latency for the connection of content providers and services with reduced access times.

MIX Bologna provides concrete support to sector operators who need greater proximity of internet services. The PoP at Lepida opens the way for further future partnerships with the Public Administration (PA). By decentralizing its operations, MIX aims to facilitate local data exchange and leverage advanced access technologies, promoting a more efficient and resilient internet ecosystem.

The activation of MIX Bologna is part of MIX's ongoing growth strategy. This expansion marks a significant step towards improving the quality of services provided to internet operators in the Emilia Romagna region. By reducing latency and improving network performance, MIX Bologna is expected to enhance customer satisfaction and retention for local operators.

Decentralization can offer several benefits for internet operators, including improved local support, enhanced network performance, and increased security and reliability. For more specific details about MIX's decentralization strategy and expansion plans, it would be necessary to consult direct sources or official announcements from MIX.

As MIX continues its growth path with this expansion, the potential benefits for the Bologna region and the wider Emilia Romagna area are significant. The activation of MIX Bologna is a testament to MIX's commitment to fostering a more connected and efficient internet ecosystem in Italy.

Data-and-cloud-computing technology plays a crucial role in the expansion of MIX's services in Bologna, as the new PoP, MIX Bologna, offers local operators the opportunity to perform direct peering with over 350 networks on the public LAN of MIX, ensuring optimal latency for content providers and services.

MIX's ongoing growth strategy, which includes the activation of MIX Bologna, aims to promote a more efficient and resilient internet ecosystem by leveraging advanced access technologies, thus contributing to data-and-cloud-computing capabilities in the region.
