Tesla Achieves Manufacturing Milestone of 500,000 Model Ys at Giga Berlin Factory

Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg has achieved a significant milestone, producing its 500,000th Tesla Model Y vehicle on March 31, 2025. This marks a key step in Tesla's European production journey.

The rapid pace of production at Giga Berlin signals a strong trajectory for Tesla as it aims to maintain its lead in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The factory, which opened in March 2022, has contributed significantly to Tesla's global output.

The new Model Y, featuring ventilated front seats, rear-seat infotainment screen, softer suspension, blind-spot monitors, new wheels, quieter tires, and improved sound insulation, has begun to be rolled out.

Giga Berlin shares the latest manufacturing advancements seen in Texas, such as the new casting approach. Tesla has streamlined parts and body designs across all plants to improve efficiency and interchangeability.

International Model Y Production Timeline

Tesla's Model Y production began at the Fremont factory in December 2019-January 2020. Giga Shanghai, the first factory outside Fremont to start production, began Model Y production in December 2020. Giga Texas started Model Y production in late 2021. Giga Berlin began deliveries of the Model Y in March 2022.

Giga Shanghai is currently upgrading its lines with a planned 3-week pause in mid-2025 to increase capacity and implement improvements. Giga Texas has adopted newer manufacturing methods such as eliminating the front casting on the new Model Y to simplify production and improve quality.

Notable Milestones at Giga Berlin

The first unit of the new Model Y produced at Giga Berlin was completed on January 14, 2025, as a commemorative vehicle signed by the factory's employees. Tesla Manufacturing produced its 400,000th Model Y at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in October 2024, with the last 100,000 units completed in under six months.

European deliveries of the new Model Y are expected to start soon, though Tesla has yet to open orders for the refreshed model in the region. Deliveries of the previous Model Y version are still ongoing in regions where the refreshed model has not been opened for orders.

The new Model Y, featuring various enhancements, has started to be rolled out in the U.S. and Canada, with deliveries of the special 'Launch Edition' Model Y, featuring exclusive badging and Full Self-Driving capabilities, beginning in late March from Giga Texas and California factories.

The 'Juniper' Model Y rollout started at Giga Shanghai, where over 100,000 orders were received within two weeks of its launch in China, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The new Model Y, including the long-wheelbase Model Y L, is expected to be available in the U.S. by late 2026 or later.

Tesla plans to scale production at Giga Berlin to 1 million vehicles annually as part of its global strategy. This ambitious goal underscores Tesla's commitment to electric mobility and its ambition to lead the EV market.
