Tesla Cybertruck User Triumphs on Shoreline Drive, Claims Success with Off-Road Maneuver: Reduced 4-Wheel Direction and Tire Pressure to 28 psi
In a recent post on the Tesla Cybertruck group on Facebook, Cody Bass, a proud owner from North Carolina, shared his successful experience driving his Cybertruck on Carolina Beach. Despite the soft and deep sand, Cody's Cybertruck did not struggle once, thanks to careful adjustments to tire pressure and vehicle settings.
Tire Pressure and Suspension Height
To optimize traction and avoid getting stuck, Cody reduced his tire pressure to around 28 psi. This increased the tire's footprint, preventing it from sinking into the sand. Additionally, he set the ride height of his Cybertruck to "Very High," losing 2 inches of ground clearance (bringing it down to 14 inches). This higher suspension setting improved ground clearance and mobility without bogging down.
Speed and Control
Maintaining a steady speed was crucial. Cody managed to drive at around 25 mph, a significant increase from the usual 10 mph when using lower suspension settings. To prevent wheel spin, he limited torque output and avoided aggressive maneuvers. Disabling the rear wheel steering was also a precaution to improve control in loose sand.
Cybertruck's Off-Road Capabilities
The Cybertruck's adaptive air suspension and tri-motor all-wheel-drive system provide a strong foundation for off-road use. However, tuning these settings specifically for sand conditions is critical to successful performance. Cody used the Off-Road Mode set to "Overland" for low-speed off-roading, and he chose "Sand" as the driving surface setting. For Stopping Mode, he selected "Hold" to automatically apply brakes when the Cybertruck stops.
Special Considerations
While Cody's Cybertruck was equipped with the standard Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires, specialized all-terrain or sand tires like BF Goodrich All-Terrain could further enhance sandy terrain handling. It's worth noting that Cody's Cybertruck has the $3,500 upgrade of Cyberwheels instead of the standard Core Wheel.
Cody's firsthand account demonstrates that with proper tire pressure, suspension height, and cautious control inputs, the Cybertruck can handle soft, deep sand without getting stuck. No direct reports were found of Cybertruck failing under these conditions when these adjustments were applied, indicating that the vehicle's off-road technology can be effectively leveraged to manage challenging sandy terrains.
