Tesla Model Y Makes Its Debut in India

Tesla is set to launch its second experience center in Delhi on August 11

The Tesla Model Y, renowned for its minimalist design and electric efficiency, has officially arrived in India. Despite some misconceptions in a recent article, the Model Y does not come with specifications like a 100 kWh battery, a range of 570 km, or a price tag of ₹70 Lakhs - 1 Cr.

In India, the Model Y is exclusively offered in a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration, powered by a single electric motor that generates approximately 295 bhp. Two battery pack options are available: a 60 kWh and a 75 kWh.

The Model Y's design brings Tesla's signature aesthetic to India, featuring a greater ride height, a glass roof, and a sportier, coupe-like profile. The vehicle's exterior is sparsely designed, with flush door handles, thin headlamps, and an aerodynamic profile.

Inside the cabin, the Model Y offers a 15.4-inch front display screen, an 8-inch rear screen, power-adjustable steering column and front seats, dual-zone auto climate control, 19-inch crossflow wheels, a fixed glass roof, acoustic glass, and a power rear liftgate. The Model Y is available in 7 exterior colours and 2 interior themes.

The Tesla Model Y's performance is impressive, with a 0-100 kmph sprint time claimed to be 5.9 seconds. A 15-minute supercharge can provide a range of 238 km to 267 km.

Tesla is currently selling the Model Y in India with two configuration options - RWD with a 60 kWh battery and RWD with a 75 kWh battery pack. The long-range version of the Model Y offers up to 622 km of WLTP range, while the 60 kWh battery delivers a WLTP range of 500 km on a single charge.

The Model Y's launch date in India is yet to be announced. However, Tesla has opened its first experience center in Mumbai, marking the company's official entry into the Indian market. The new Tesla center will be located at the Worldmark 3 shopping centre in Aerocity, Delhi.

While other electric vehicles like the Hyundai Kona Electric are already available in the Indian market, new models from Mercedes-Benz would depend on their international announcements translated into Indian market releases. As for the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric and the Felidae Electric Maven, there is currently no information available about their release in India.
