Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory Hit by 26 Environmental Incidents
Tesla's Giga factory in Grünheide, Berlin, has faced a series of environmental incidents. Recently, paint leaks totaling 15,000 litres, diesel spills of 150 litres, and aluminium spills totalling 13 tons have occurred at the site.
The Giga factory, situated in a water-protection area, has seen 26 environmental accidents since construction began. These incidents are typically documented and reported by Tesla to the local Immission Control Authority, which oversees emissions and enforces regulations under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG).
One notable incident involved a fire caused by a shredded battery. This led to 300 litres of extinguishing fluid seeping into the ground.
The recent spills at Tesla's Giga factory highlight the need for stringent environmental management. The local Immission Control Authority will investigate and address these incidents to ensure compliance with regulations and protect the surrounding water-protection area.
