Tesla's competitor prepares to unveil its challenge to the Model Y at Goodwood event

In an exciting turn of events, MG Motors is set to make a splash at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The British automaker will showcase two technologically advanced electric vehicles (EVs), including a potent new electric SUV and the fan-favourite MG EX4 EV running the hill climb.

The unveiling, scheduled for 11 AM on July 10, 2025, promises an exciting glimpse into MG's future EV design and performance innovations. Among the new models on display will be the MG Cyberster Black roadster, Cyber X urban SUV concept, MGS5 EV, MG HS SUV, and a potential UK debut for the IM Motors IM6.

The IM6, a coupe-SUV measuring approximately 4.9 metres long, is already making waves in China and is set to arrive in Europe under the MG marque. The IM6's sleek design, reminiscent of Aston Martin, signals a premium, sporty aesthetic. Key features positioning the IM6 as a strong competitor to the Tesla Model Y include a powerful 767 hp (572 kW) powertrain, quick acceleration of 0-62 mph in approximately 3.4 seconds, a large 100 kWh battery offering an estimated range of up to 345 miles (approx. 555 km) on a single charge, and an advanced 800V electrical architecture enabling ultra-fast charging at up to 396 kW.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed will also serve as a platform for MG to demonstrate the IM6's impressive EV acceleration at the iconic hill climb, emphasising performance alongside cutting-edge design and technology.

Besides the IM6, MG will unveil another new production EV, the S5 EV, which is a successor to the popular ZS EV, indicating its relevance in the MG lineup. The S5 EV launch is part of MG's push upmarket, following the launch of the Cyberster electric roadster and the unveiling of the Cyber X SUV concept.

It is important to note that the S5 EV is not associated with the IM brand, which is a joint venture between SAIC, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. There are no current plans for MG to launch SAIC's IM brand in the UK.

MG's participation in the Goodwood Festival of Speed signifies the brand's growing ambitions in the European EV market. With the IM6 and the S5 EV, MG is positioning itself as a player in the premium electric SUV segment, directly challenging established models like the Tesla Model Y with strong acceleration, long range, fast charging, and a luxurious tech-rich interior.
