Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Review: A Slender, High-Performance Smartphone

By Klaus Wedekind

The latest addition to Samsung's Galaxy S25 series, the S25 Edge, boasts an exquisite design with an emphasis on lightness and thinness. Compared to other large smartphones, this slim, sleek device offers a comfortable hold, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a more streamlined smartphone experience.

At just 5.84mm thick and 163 grams, the S25 Edge is an ultrathin masterpiece that stands out from its peers in the series. The device's slim waistline and lightweight build make it not only comfortable to carry but also suitable for use with tailored clothing, where bulky smartphones often cause uncomfortable tilts.

The S25 Edge's titanium matte frame offers a durable and comfortable grip, while its Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screens ensure protection from breaks and scratches. With an IP68 rating, the phone is also protected against dust and water.

The S25 Edge's standout feature is its 6.7-inch screen, which offers vibrant, natural colors and strong contrasts, on par with other devices in the Galaxy S25 series. The high-resolution QHD+ screen also boasts an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz.

However, prospective buyers should be aware of the compromises they must make when it comes to the camera. The camera island protrudes noticeably from the thin housing, and the device only features a main and ultra-wide-angle camera, with no telephoto lens included.

Samsung offsets this limitation by installing the 200-megapixel camera from the S25 Ultra, which delivers excellent day and night-time results and produces high-quality videos. The S25 Edge's ultra-wide-angle camera produces 12 megapixel images, akin to the regular S25, with sharp edges and colors identical to those captured by the main camera. The 12-megapixel front camera also performs admirably.

In terms of internal hardware, the S25 Edge offers a powerful performance comparable to its siblings, with Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and 12GB of RAM. Despite the smaller vapor chamber and compact design, performance is maintained well, with only graphically demanding games revealing any noticeable differences.

An area in which the S25 Edge falls short is battery life. Though it achieves an active use score of about 12 hours and 6 minutes during GSMArena's battery tests, the phone's 3,900 mAh battery is smaller than those found in competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the vivo X200 Pro. The S25 Edge can still last a full day on normal usage, but users may find themselves needing to recharge more frequently than with other large flagship smartphones.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge offers a compelling combination of aesthetics, power, and performance, with a few compromises in terms of battery life. Though it may not provide the same endurance as other flagship smartphones, its sleek design, superior camera, and powerful performance make it an attractive choice for those who prioritize a streamlined smartphone experience.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, with its focus on research and development, showcases advanced technology in its slim design, ultrathin profile, and state-of-the-art smartphone features. This device stands out among its peers, not just for its high-performance capabilities, but also for its compatibility with fashionable gadgets such as smartwatches and other wearable technology.

Despite the compact design, the S25 Edge's robust construction, featuring titanium frames and reinforced glass screens, ensures it can withstand the rigors of daily use and the occasional mishap, making it a reliable choice for research-oriented individuals who require a durable device for their studies and experiments.
