Time required for securing a new job
In today's fast-paced job market, the hiring process can often be a lengthy and complex endeavour. However, a new report by XING, a leading professional network, reveals some interesting insights into how different industries fare in terms of hiring times.
One industry that stands out for its swift hiring process is Pflege, or healthcare and care professions. XING reports that positions in this sector can be filled in an average of 57.9 days, significantly faster than the average of more than 80 days for many other industries.
On the other end of the spectrum, IT & Software Development and Engineering & Technology roles typically take longer to fill. XING's data shows that it takes an average of 86.8 days to receive a job offer in these fields, due to the intensive evaluation criteria, multiple interview rounds, and emphasis on cultural fit that characterise the hiring process in tech companies.
XING's report also highlights the importance of digital applicant management systems in accelerating the hiring process. By streamlining coordination between departments, HR, and candidates, these systems can significantly reduce the time between interview and hiring.
Interestingly, remote jobs tend to attract more applications, with an average of 8 more applications received compared to comparable positions without a remote option. This trend is reflected across all industries, with Marketing & Advertising, Graphic Design & Architecture, and Product Management receiving around 35, 32, and 25 applications, respectively, on average.
However, it's not just about the number of applications. Thomas Kindler, Managing Director of XING, emphasises that recruiting is a matter of precision. Delays in hiring are often caused by manual coordination, lack of transparency in the process, and slow internal communication. The right channel mix, including active sourcing and job ads, can help fill open positions faster.
In the personnel services sector, the average number of applications per job posting is a relatively low 9, indicating a more streamlined hiring process compared to other industries. This sector also has the least movement on the XING platform, suggesting a more stable job market.
Overall, the data from XING's Job Application Report 2025 underscores the importance of efficient hiring processes in today's competitive job market. By reducing waiting times, streamlining coordination, and prioritising precision, companies can attract top talent and stay ahead in the race for the best candidates.
Education and technology are critical factors in quickening hiring processes, as the report shows that tech companies prioritize cultural fit, which may lead to longer interview rounds and evaluation periods. In light of these findings, businesses can strive to improve their digital applicant management systems, fostering a more efficient and transparent hiring process.
On the other hand, careers in finance and business could potentially benefit from more strategic recruitment efforts, as the personnel services sector boasts a relatively low number of applications per job posting and a more stable job market, implying less competition for talent in these areas.
