TMU Withdraws Interview Offer, Finlay to Discuss Canada's Cybersecurity Crisis in October

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) has withdrawn an offer for an interview, citing internal discussions. However, Charles Finlay, the Founding Executive Director of the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at TMU, remains available for interviews during Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October. Finlay will discuss Canada's cybersecurity crisis, which has been exacerbated by America's retreat from international cooperation.

Canada faces a severe cybersecurity challenge due to the U.S.'s 'America First' policies. Cybercriminals are exploiting this situation, stealing hundreds of billions annually, and targeting critical infrastructure such as power grids, hospitals, and election systems. This puts democracy itself at risk.

Consequences of America's retreat include strained intelligence sharing, slowed law enforcement response, and increased targeting of Canadian critical infrastructure. Finlay is expected to speak publicly in October 2025 about the state of U.S.-Canada cybersecurity cooperation, the challenges Canada faces due to reduced U.S. global engagement, and the impact of limited information sharing between the two countries. TMU's Public Relations Advisor has expressed interest in coordinating an interview with Finlay to discuss navigating the evolving cyber threat landscape and protecting national security in a fragmented world.

While TMU withdrew their initial interview offer, Finlay's upcoming public discussions and potential interviews highlight the urgent need for Canada to address its cybersecurity challenges. His insights into the evolving threat landscape and the impact of reduced international cooperation are crucial for understanding and mitigating these risks.
