Togg, set for a 2025 debut in Germany

The Turkish automotive brand, Togg, has announced plans to expand its market reach, with Germany being its first overseas destination. Initially slated for a fall 2024 release, the launch has been delayed to 2025, marking Togg's entry into a mature electric vehicle (EV) market [1][2].

The Togg T10X electric SUV, already on the Turkish market since 2023, will make a "big appearance" at the IAA Mobility in Munich in 2025. Togg has chosen a unique distribution model for its German market entry, opting for the Trumore app, a purely digital platform [7].

This digital-only approach, while innovative, could present challenges. Some Chinese manufacturers have faced difficulties with similar distribution models in Germany, leading some to switch to partnerships with car dealership groups [6]. Consumer acceptance of buying a car through a digital platform without physical dealer experience may affect trust and willingness to purchase [10].

However, the convenience and simplicity of the Trumore app, along with effective digital marketing and customer support, could attract German buyers. The absence of physical dealers could impact test driving opportunities, aftersales service, and immediate vehicle servicing, traditional expectations for car buyers in Germany [10].

The success of Togg in Germany may be influenced by the presence of three million people with Turkish roots [9]. The initial price of the Togg T10X in Turkey was 47,500 euros, with a smaller battery variant offering around 320 kilometers of range starting at around 41,000 euros [8]. Prices for the Togg T10X in Germany will be announced at the IAA Mobility in Munich.

Togg's basic goal remains to sell one million electric vehicles by 20232. The competitive landscape of Germany’s established EV market and Togg’s brand recognition in Germany will also play significant roles [1]. Effective digital distribution combined with clear communication about service and warranty arrangements through Trumore will be essential for successful market penetration.

In the meantime, Ford's electric vehicle division, Model e, sold 91,000 vehicles worldwide in the same period [11]. Togg's entry into the German market will undoubtedly shake up the EV landscape, as it strives to adapt its success from Turkey to a new and challenging market.
