Toyota, Mazda Boost Green Initiatives; Volkswagen Cuts Staff; Euro NCAP Enhances Truck Safety

Toyota and Mazda have announced significant steps towards greener operations, while Volkswagen has faced staffing issues. Meanwhile, Euro NCAP is set to enhance truck safety ratings, and Mercedes-Benz has received top marks.

Toyota's Bolt Drive carsharing service is set to reduce emissions by around 35% by switching to hybrid models. By the end of October, 400 Toyota hybrids will join the German fleet.

Mazda has revised its roadmap to CO2 neutrality, aiming for a 46% reduction in emissions by 2030 in its Japanese plants and offices. The company also plans to introduce a gas-powered combined heat and power system that can operate with hydrogen in the long term.

Ford has made a retrofittable frunk tray available for electric models Explorer and Capri, priced at €150.

Euro NCAP will expand its safety tests for trucks in 2028 to include crash tests, reflecting their high accident relevance. Mercedes-Benz Actros has received a five-star rating in Euro NCAP's heavy truck tests, joining Volvo FM and FH Aero series in top safety.

Volkswagen has dismissed over 500 employees across its group due to misconduct, including unexcused absences. Over 300 dismissals occurred at the core VW brand alone, across six German sites. A company spokesperson confirmed the terminations, stating, 'We go consistently against rule violations.'

Toyota and Mazda's initiatives show a commitment to reducing emissions, while Volkswagen's dismissals reflect a zero-tolerance approach to misconduct. Euro NCAP's expanded safety tests will enhance truck safety, as demonstrated by Mercedes-Benz Actros' five-star rating.
