Turkey collaborates with Japan on advanced surveillance for railway infrastructure management
The Turkish State Railways (TCDD) is set to embark on a significant collaboration with Japan, aimed at enhancing safety and infrastructure monitoring on Turkey's high-speed rail lines. This project, funded by a grant program from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, is a testament to TCDD's commitment to advancing its existing infrastructure and adopting the best international practices.
The collaboration will see the implementation of Japan's advanced Zero Energy IoT Series monitoring system, developed by Japanese firm OKI (Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.). This system, already in use on Japan's high-speed rail network, is designed to detect possible shifts in infrastructure and natural disasters like floods and landslides caused by climate change.
The project will be implemented on the Polatlı-Konya and the Konya-Karaman-Ulukışla high-speed lines in Turkey. Engineers from the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and Japanese experts will work together on the development of local technological solutions.
The Zero Energy IoT Series monitoring system will undergo a 24-month monitoring phase after installation, during which data will be analyzed for feasibility of long-term integration. This phase is crucial in determining the system's effectiveness and potential benefits for Turkey's high-speed rail network.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, made these statements to Anadolu Agency (AA). He emphasized that this collaboration will not only enhance safety but also support the development of local technological solutions.
This project focuses on the TCDD's domestic engineering efforts, with the aim of bringing the best international practices to Turkey while also developing local technological solutions. The installation of the Zero Energy IoT Series monitoring system is scheduled to begin in October or November.
This collaboration between Japan and Turkey is a significant step towards improving the safety and efficiency of Turkey's high-speed rail network. It underscores the commitment of both countries to innovation and sustainable development in the transportation sector.
