U.S. Space Force Bolsters Operations with New 'System Delta' Units
The U.S. Space Force is enhancing its operational capabilities with the activation of 'System Delta' units. These specialized teams aim to improve collaboration between acquisition officers and operational commanders, ensuring space systems meet the needs of those on the ground.
By the end of the year, the Space Force plans to have up to 10 operational System Deltas. Currently active units focus on critical areas such as Electromagnetic Warfare, Position, Navigation & Timing, and Space Domain Awareness/Battle Management. More are set to be activated in the coming months, including those centered around Satellite Communications, Combat Power, and Assured Access to Space.
The first System Deltas were launched in late 2023, with additional units coming online throughout 2025. Each System Delta is led by a colonel who works directly with a Mission Delta counterpart in Space Operations Command. This direct line of communication aims to expedite the delivery of space systems and ensure they align with operational needs.
The Space Force is restructuring to provide adequate contracting support to program offices, despite cuts at headquarters. With planned activations for the remainder of the year, the Space Force is committed to bolstering its space capabilities and ensuring they support the broader military mission.
