UK CEOs Crack Down on AI Misuse After Glasgow Scandal

Despite no known formal bans on generative AI in UK workplaces by 2025, misuse has led to disciplinary action and concern among CEOs. A quarter of bosses have punished staff for AI misconduct, while another quarter have imposed workplace bans. The Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience Scandal, involving AI-generated misleading content, has sparked worry about customer deception and data privacy.

Derek Mackenzie, CEO of Investigo, advises organisations to understand AI usage and provide staff with the necessary skills for responsible operation. Simon Ward, CEO of Inspired Thinking Group, warns against reckless AI use and suggests implementing high-quality AI training and safeguards. A survey of 500 UK CEOs reveals that 51% plan to introduce a formal code of conduct for AI use, and half intend to send staff on AI awareness courses to address risks.
