Ukraine Destroys Four North Korean Artillery Systems in Major Victory

Ukrainian forces have scored a significant victory by destroying four Korean-made M1989 Koksan self-propelled artillery systems. The operation was carried out by the 412th Nemesis Regiment using drones, marking a substantial blow to Russia's artillery capabilities in the region.

The Koksan systems, each weighing 40 tons and armed with a 170mm gun, were destroyed in eastern Ukraine. Despite their formidable range of up to 60 kilometers, these systems are slow-firing and have now been rendered inoperable due to damage to their barrels and breech blocks. The mission was a success for the Ukrainian forces, who used bomber and FPV drones to locate and target the artillery systems.

Military analysts suggest that this destruction may not be an isolated incident. There are indications that Moscow may be equipping more of its artillery brigades with Korean hardware, potentially to compensate for losses sustained during the conflict. However, the slow-firing nature of the Koksan systems and their vulnerability to drone strikes could limit their effectiveness on the battlefield.

The destruction of the four Korean-made M1989 Koksan systems is a significant achievement for Ukrainian forces. These systems posed a considerable threat due to their range, but their slow-firing nature and vulnerability to drone strikes have now been exposed. As Russia continues to seek new artillery platforms, the fate of these systems serves as a stark reminder of the challenges it faces in the conflict.
