New LED Display System Enhances Fan Experience at Thompson-Boling Arena

The University of Tennessee's Thompson-Boling Arena has unveiled an impressive 11-display centerhung system, courtesy of a partnership with Daktronics. This state-of-the-art LED display system promises to offer fans a modern, immersive viewing experience across the entire arena.

At the heart of the system are four main video displays, each measuring nearly 15ft high by 24.5ft wide. Four corner wedge displays fit snugly between the main displays, each one measuring nearly 15ft high by 5ft wide. All six scorers table displays have a pixel spacing of 3.9mm for sharp, clear visuals.

The centerpiece of the system is a 103-foot ring display beneath the main screens, providing 360-degree graphics and stats. Two underbelly screens, angled toward the court sidelines, each measure nearly 6 feet high by 20 feet wide, with a pixel spacing of 5.9 millimeters for high-resolution visuals.

Each main display is capable of variable content zoning, allowing it to show one large image or multiple zones. A 360-degree ribbon display is mounted to the seating bowl, measuring approximately 2.5ft high by nearly 88ft in length. This ribbon display features a 10mm pixel spacing.

Six scorers tables are located along the sidelines, each featuring a display. Four measure roughly 2.5ft high by 10ft wide, and two measure 2.5ft high by 6.5ft wide. Two displays are angled toward the sidelines on the underside of the centerhung, each measuring nearly 6ft high by 20ft wide.

Each corner of the arena features a corner board, four in total, each measuring nearly 11ft high by 18ft wide and also featuring 5.9mm pixel spacing. The two marquee displays outside the arena each measure 9.5ft high by 25.5ft wide and feature 10mm pixel spacing. These marquee displays can be used to promote upcoming events, show live games, show highlights, and provide many other messaging opportunities for the university.

Danny White, vice chancellor and director of athletics, expressed his pride in the university's dedicated fan base and their commitment to continually elevating their experience. He stated that the partnership with Food City allows for reinvestment in the fan experience, with the upgrades to the video boards being particularly impressive.

Josh Francois, regional sales manager at Daktronics, commented that the University of Tennessee is on the cutting edge of innovative trends in collegiate athletics, and that continuing the partnership with Daktronics is a natural progression of maximizing the fan experience and providing a massive home court advantage.

This new LED display system is set to revolutionize the fan experience at Thompson-Boling Arena, ensuring that fans from all seating areas, from courtside to nosebleed sections, can easily view replays, stats, and game info without needing to crane their necks.

The new LED display system, which includes four main video displays, four corner wedge displays, six scorers table displays, a 103-foot ring display, two underbelly screens, a 360-degree ribbon display, and four corner boards, promises to offer fans a modern, immersive viewing experience across the entire arena. This technology is a testament to the University of Tennessee's commitment to sports events, aiming to continually elevate the fan experience.
