CityLink, Melbourne's bustling 22-kilometre motorway, sees over 800,000 light vehicles daily. Transurban, the operator, awarded Vitronic Australia a significant contract in October 2020 to upgrade the tolling system, aiming to enhance traffic management and efficiency.

The CityLink Tolling Upgrade Project, spanning from October 2020 to May 2024, involved a comprehensive overhaul of the roadside system. Vitronic replaced outdated video camera systems and tag reader technology modules with a state-of-the-art solution across all 17 toll points. The new system, successfully deployed in September 2023, focuses on advanced vehicle identification and toll evasion detection.

CityLink, with most sections eight lanes wide, connects key Melbourne thoroughfares, including the Monash, West Gate, and Tullamarine freeways, as well as the city centre with the airport and port. This vital infrastructure benefits greatly from the upgraded tolling system, ensuring smoother traffic flow and improved safety.

Vitronic Australia's successful completion of the CityLink Tolling Upgrade Project has significantly enhanced Melbourne's major motorway. The new system, now fully operational, is set to boost traffic management and safety, benefiting over 800,000 daily users.
