Smartphone Trade-ins Soaring in Russia 🔥

Yakut Residents Increasingly Opt for Trading-In Old Phones for New Purchases

Hey there! Have you heard about the surge in smartphone trade-ins in Russia? According to MegaFon, a leading provider, they've seen a whopping 120% increase in devices traded-in during the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. that's some impressive growth!

But what are the most popular smartphones to trade-in? Samsung has been leading the pack for the second consecutive year, with a third of all trade-in transactions. Xiaomi and Apple follow closely behind with shares of 22% and 18% respectively. Interestingly, Apple's share has seen a significant boost compared to the same period last year.

When it comes to the almighty dollar (or ruble, in this case), half of the money from trade-ins still comes from Samsung devices, but Apple has edged ahead, with its share increasing to 32% compared to 28% in January-October 2023. Xiaomi remains in third place with 8%.

So, which Samsung and Xiaomi models are being traded-in most frequently? The top choices are Samsung's Galaxy A10 (32GB), A50 (64GB), and A51 (64GB), while for Xiaomi, it's the Redmi 9C NFC (64GB), Note 9 (64GB), and Redmi 9 (64GB). Among Apple devices, the iPhone 11 (64GB), XR (64GB), and iPhone 11 (128GB) reign supreme.

In terms of regions, Yakutia, a sizeable territory in eastern Russia, has seen a 32% increase in smartphone purchases through trade-ins compared to last year. This accounts for 11% of devices purchased through the program in the country's eastern regions, with residents of the Far East increasingly using this method to buy new smartphones - their number has jumped by 57% in the retail networks of MegaFon and Yota.

David Borzilov, the director of the strategy and sales development department of MegaFon, had this to say about trade-ins, "Trade-in is an excellent opportunity for smartphone owners to get a significant discount on a new gadget without having to find a buyer for their current device. We offer a convenient, safe, and fast service where our client receives professional service at every stage: from evaluating the smartphone to the actual purchase."

It's worth noting that the average smartphone ownership period has been on the rise lately and now stands at around 4.5 years. This can be attributed to factors like smartphone repair quality, an abundance of software updates for older devices, and the cautious nature of smartphone owners who protect their gadgets with cases and screen protectors.

The trade-in program at MegaFon has been running since 2017 and is available throughout Russia. It allows users to swap their old device for a discount on a new gadget, accessory, settings, or insurance, regardless of brand. Customers can even buy the latest smartphone models through trade-in. The MegaFon website even enables users to evaluate their smartphone before visiting the office.

MegaFon offers a smorgasbord of services for smartphone enthusiasts. In addition to new phones, their retail network sells refurbished smartphones, with warranties of up to 180 days for any models of refurbished smartphones. If you're a MegaFon or Yota salon customer, you'll also have access to trade-ins, credit options, and installment plans for new devices. Lastly, a new service is available to restore the appearance of your gadget through mechanical cleaning.

In conclusion, with trade-ins becoming more popular in Russia, it's never been a better time to upgrade your smartphone without breaking the bank. Whether you're in Yakutia or the Far East, MegaFon has got you covered!
