YouTube TV & TelevisaUnivision in Dispute Over Streaming Rights
TelevisaUnivision's networks have gone dark on YouTube TV due to a carriage dispute. Both companies have reached a short-term extension to prevent a blackout, but a resolution is yet to be reached.
The dispute centres around YouTube TV's push to 'ingest' streaming programming, a move NBCUniversal opposes. Wade Davis, CEO of TelevisaUnivision, has expressed concern about the impact on Hispanic viewers, stating that millions are being stripped of Spanish-language content. Viewers can still access some TelevisaUnivision programming via Univision Noticias YouTube channel or Vix.
The dispute comes amidst YouTube TV's recent price hikes. The service has increased its price twice in less than two years, with a total uptick of $18. This has led to some subscribers questioning the value they receive for their money.
Both YouTube TV and NBCUniversal have agreed to a short-term extension to keep negotiations going. However, the future remains uncertain as their contract expiration looms. Fans of TelevisaUnivision content on YouTube TV are urged to stay tuned for updates.
