Zimbabwean Postal and Telecommunications Corporation, Zimpost, teams up with Satewave to provide smartphones through flexible payment plans in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe's postal and courier service, Zimpost, has joined forces with Satewave Technologies in a significant move aimed at bridging the digital divide and enhancing mobile accessibility nationwide. This partnership is a significant step towards realizing Vision 2030 in Zimbabwe, the government's call for affordable and inclusive digital access.
The mobile phone program, initiated by this collaboration, targets micro-entrepreneurs, vendors, rural citizens, and others who face challenges accessing traditional credit. The goal is to ensure that mobile device access is no longer a privilege, but a right for all Zimbabweans, regardless of income bracket.
Under this program, customers can obtain a ZTE smartphone by paying a 25% deposit and $5 weekly installments. This flexible, credit-based model marks the first time a postal and courier service in Zimbabwe has offered mobile phones in such a manner.
The Know Your Customer process for the mobile phone program is simple, quick, and inclusive, making it accessible for those in the informal sector. The program does not require strict bank requirements, further enhancing its inclusivity.
The founder and CEO of Satewave Technologies, Tatenda Baramba, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating that it aligns with the government's call for affordable and inclusive digital access. He added that the mobile wallet activity of customers can qualify them instantly for the ZTE mobile phone program.
The Postmaster General of Zimpost, Mr Maxwell Chitendeni, also expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it is designed to support those in the informal sector. He further noted that the initiative is part of the efforts to ensure that every Zimbabwean can connect, transact, and thrive in a digital economy.
In conclusion, the collaboration between Zimpost and Satewave Technologies is a commendable step towards enhancing mobile accessibility and digital inclusion in Zimbabwe. The mobile phone program continues to aim to bridge the digital divide and enhance mobile accessibility nationwide.
